Cyst surgery

Odontogenic cysts are closed sacs that have a connective tissue wall, and are padded with epithelium. It may contain air, fluids, or semi-solid material. Usually they are filled with yellow liquid. The main feature of a cyst is that is in permanent growth. The fluid pressure inside causes atrophy in the surrounding bone tissue. In advanced stage, even the jaw may fracture spontaneously. The teeth are more resistant than the bone so the pressure is not making them absorbed, whereas a cyst which grows between two teeth will move the roots apart. This is not a problem in the beginning, but later the crowns are inclined towards each other. As the cysts usually cause symptoms only after a long period, in many cases they are discovered by x-rays taken for another cause
